A Terrarium is kind of like a mini garden. You need Soil, Water, and Seed...but some people like bugs to help the Soil. We put icopods in our Terrarium. The seeds we used were Barley, Pea, Radish, Clover, And Corn. We put saran wrap over the top so the water would evaporate and then rain back down so we wouldn't half to water it daily. After a couple weeks we looked and measured out plants. Our longest plant was about 4-6 inches

My Terrarium

The sides of my terrarium are foggy and wet because we put saran wrap on the top so the water could not evaporate. The soil looked part wet and part dry. All our seeds have sprouted except our barley. The seed that sprouted the first was the pea seed. The seed that sprouted last was the clover seed. The plants that me and my partner(Cari) planted were the pea seed, the barley seed, the clover seed, the corn seed, and the radish seed.

Our plants are growing and all our isopods ether died or escaped. Our soil changed from dry soil to damp soil. Planting plants in me and Cari"s terrarium I would recommend it.

On Monday the whole 5th grade in walled lake elementary went to camp. It was one of my favorite experiences! We had to do a lot of house work things too like, Cleaning up the dorms, getting the food for your table, and setting the table. We also had to learn! But at night we had secret activities. One of them was when we had to dissect owl pellets, it was gross but really fun! another activity was when the string man came. he was our teacher, but guess what we got? STRING! We went on a 5 mile hike up a hill. That was hard, but after the night activities we took a shower, but they were ice cold! You would think after our hard day that we could have a peaceful sleep, but almost every person got up to go to the bathroom, or go to there friends bunk, or squeak in there bunk bed! But i met 2 people i didn't know. Me and my friends bonded a lot. at night we braided each others hair. I will never forget when i went 5th grade camping.

In my class we are learning about planes. In this picture it shows me and my partner (Kyle C) working on our plane project. i am the one in the red sweatshirt.

First we got two Popsicle sticks. We sanded them down to fit in a peace of plastic. We then took a jumbo straw and cut in in half. Next we hole punched a hole in both half's of the jumbo straw. Then we got a normal straw and put that through the hole punched straw. Next we took our sanded down Popsicle sticks and stapled them on to the bottom half of the jumbo straws. Then we put the propeller and the tail on the front and back of the plane. Finlay we attached a rubber band to the tail and the propeller.

It was a really fun experiment because you used a lot of team work and you got to see how builders make plains. I think i did really good on this assignment.

I learned about different kinds of rubber bands. and how you can make a plane at your house. I also learned that if you can make it to the other side in 21 winds, it can't go 15 winds half way. Because you need power winds.

Kalahari!

Over mid winter break I went to Kalahari. Kalahari is the country's largest indoor water park! I went with my neighbors. It took an hour to get there, but it was worth it! Once we got there we went to our room and got on our bathing suits. Then we went to the water park. We went in the wave pool first, and the the outdoor hot tub. My favorite was the zip coaster. You sit in the roller coaster and then, before you know it, it shoots you up a giant hill! I went on it twice. we also spent a hour in the arcade.

Super Bowl (look at this! its really cool!)

The super bowl was sweet! i went to a part. i soon got Bord so me, my friend Josie(she's 10) and Erin(she's 16...i think) we went in Josie's hot tub! we all had water bottles and mine fell off the side. when i went to go pick it up Josie & Erin both threw snow balls at me! so we had a snow ball fight, it was fun. after Josie tricked us in to thinking there was an eel(it was her hair tie) i got scared and stood up. i slipped off the seat and fell! i went fully under water. i hit my hip bone on the hard seat. it hurts but it was fun.

Hospitalty House

12/4/08

Dear Citizens of Walled Lake,

Have you ever imagined coming home and not having any food? This happens to more families than you think. In Walled Lake alone, the local Hospitality House helps over 600 families each month. You can help this worthy cause by donating to your local Hospitality House.

My 5th grade class and I got the opportunity to go to the Hospitality House. We almost gave 1,000 pounds of food. I also got to help feed people at Gray Centers of Hope. Families in our community spend money on food and not being able to pay their bills. It is a good thing we have the Hospitality House. You can have your house and food.

If you don’t have enough food to donate you can give copy paper, toilet paper, postage stamps, gifts for little kids and a lot more items. And if you don’t have any food to donate you can volunteer!

You can also go to Gray Centers of Hope or start a club to donate food. If you have not donated food to people who needed it now is your chance. Go out to the nearest Hospitality House and donate. You will feel like you have a new gold heart when you go donate.

Sincerely,

Hanna G
